URBANEXUS Memphis - Salon
Next American City came into town on March 19 to host a salon event at the Stax Museum of American Soul. With partners including MPACT Memphis, Sustainable Shelby, Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development, Urban Land Institute Memphis, Coalition for Livable Communities and the Community Development Council, we had a huge support system coming into town and that certainly paid off! Nearly 150 attendees made their way to the Stax Museum for a one-night event featuring eight panelists representing local organizations. Our presenters - Eric Mathews of Launch Memphis, Dr. Charlie Santo of Coalition for Livable Communities, Tim Sampson of the Stax Museum, John Weeden of UrbanArt, Gwyn Fisher of MPACT Memphis, Cardell Orrin of New Path, Derwin Sisnett of Power Center CDC and Thomas Pacello of Sustinable Shelby - each shared the work they do in civic engagement through a four slide per minute for four minute presentation.
Guests enjoyed each presentation and later engaged in an active question and answer session, asking how these organizations in particular would benefit from the stimulus package, how the economy has shifted priorities and how Memphis locals can also participate and engage in dialogue with the presenters. All of our guests and panelists were later invited to enjoy some food and drinks at a reception.
