Chances are the name Jake Dobkin doesn’t ring a bell, but you’ve likely heard of Gothamist, a website he co-founded with Jen Chung in 2003. The blog mixes urban advocacy, transit tips, celebrity gossip, cultural criticism, and food news with a style that is equal parts informative, snarky, and sentimental. Now with sister websites that cover 14 different cities in five countries, the Gothamist network reaches more than 3 million readers every month. Next American City chatted briefly with Dobkin about the website and cities in general.
