The Next American City, Inc (NAC) is seeking a dynamic and motivated new publisher/president to lead its growing non-profit magazine operations.
Reporting to NAC’s board of directors, the president will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the organization’s revenue and program growth. The president will execute short and long-term business development plans, ensuring growth and profitability. The president will actively engage in revenue development related to advertising sales/sponsorships and funding partnerships to secure necessary funding to sustain and grow business operations and ensure that NAC adheres to its business plan. He or she will oversee and direct the efforts of NAC’s circulation coordinator to achieve significant revenue growth through circulation development. The president will also oversee the planned addition of a development staff person (spring 2009) to grow revenues related to funding relationships and individual giving.
The president will oversee all aspects of the NAC’s operations, leading revenue development and strategic planning for the organization and ensuring the fulfillment of its non-profit mission. This includes financial reporting, budget management, and spearheading a broad array of revenue-generating and programming partnerships. The president will oversee a small team (3-4 staff) and establish and maintain relationships with outside vendors as required.
A minimum of four years experience in publishing, non-profit or business management is required. A relevant graduate degree, such as an MBA, non-profit management, public administration or similar degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education is required . Business experience is a must. Previous experience with a young, growing business is also preferred. The eligible candidate will also demonstrate a strong interest in sustainability and urban issues, excellent interpersonal skills and writing abilities and a strong knowledge of financial management practices.
A 501(c)3 based in Philadelphia, PA, The Next American City, Inc is dedicated to promoting socially and environmentally sustainable economic growth in America’s cities. NAC achieves this goal primarily through the publishing of Next American City a national, quarterly magazine, as well as through events and advocacy on urban issues in cities across the country.
