McCain/Obama Surrogate Debate Event at the AIA

Featuring Paul C. Brophy (Principal, Brophy & Reilly LLC) representing Senator Obama and Michael P. Moreland (Assistant Professor of Law at Villanova University School of Law) representing Senator McCain, and moderated by Eugenie Birch (Co-director of the Penn Institute for Urban Research) and Andrew Altman (Deputy Mayor of Planning and Economic Development), the Obama/McCain surrogate debate drew an audience of excited students, teachers and professionals from all over the city. Representing the UPenn Institute for Urban Research in droves, students intently listened while each side cordially took shots at the other, repeatedly referencing their candidates agendas and spiritedly noting statistics.

Afterward, audience members were allowed to ask questions of each debater, focusing mainly on urban issues and where the candidates stand regarding said issues. The Q&A session rounded out the rest of the evening, leaving half an hour for attendees and debaters alike to socialize, have a drink or two and eat some (if I may say so) delicious hummus. (Mmm..) I’m not sure if we’ll have a transcript, but we will have streaming video of the event up within the next week or two so everyone can check it out before the election.
