Stats about Next American City
- Next American City was founded in 2002 by Adam Gordon, Seth Brown and Anika Singh Lemar and established as a 501c3.
- The magazine was first called The Next American City and published on a quarterly basis starting in 2003. The organization dropped the “The” and became Next American City in 2008. The last print issue of the magazine was Issue 30/31, which was published in 2011.
- Next American City launched Forefront on April 16, 2012.
Our Experts
Next American City’s editors are experts in a range of urban affairs subjects and talk broadly about issues of* transportation, governance, economic development, education, health* and young emerging leaders in cities. As editors of a pioneering new media site, they are also able to speak about the successes and challenges of non-profit new media.
Executive Director Diana Lind is an experienced speaker who has given keynotes and other speeches at conferences and other events such as The Creative Cities Summit, Nashville Civic Design Center and Downtown Denver Partnership. She has also guest lectured at Drexel University, Syracuse University, the University of Rutgers-Camden and University of Windsor-Ontario. Executive Editor Ariella Cohen has given speeches and participated on panel discussions at conferences and other events hosted by such organizations as the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Institute on Money in State Politics, the West Dallas Chamber of Commerce and Surdna foundation. Watch her speak about her work at The Lens (prior to joining Next American City) on a local Fox affiliate.
Creative Director Anthony Smyrski has spoken about his work and ideas at The University of the Arts, The Museum of Modern Art, The American Institute of Graphic Artists, Colophon, Rutgers University, The University of Pennsylvania, The Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, The Pennsylvannia Academy of Fine Arts and The Philadelphia Museum of Art.
