The following is a six-part blog detailing NAC's trip to New Orleans by contributing blog writer and self-described "trouble-enthusiast," Jeffrey Hill. Photos were contributed by NAC editor Matt Stroud.
PART 6: Recovery.
So, you made it through my little tour diary! You're probably just as exhausted as I was post-24Hrs. All-in-all, New Orleans itself was a must-have experience. Every American should visit this city; each visitor should equip their own unique purposes and plans. Cities thrive from variety. You can go to New Orleans to party, dump money into Bourbon Street and provide part-time support to bartenders and strippers. You can go to rebuild homes and infrastructure. You can go to walk around for a day and document how you feel. You can find love. You can find yourself in jail. This applies to most cities in the U.S., except New Orleans is "Jazzed that you're here." It's written on Canal St. banners, and it may seem trite, but really... they do love visitors. They love to talk, drink, eat and be merry.
As I laid spread-eagle on the most luxurious double-bed in the world, collecting electrolytes and thoughts, I attempt to begin sorting out my scribbles on my computer. No luck. What I will end up doing is falling asleep, waking up and wandering once again in the same city - at 3a.m. watching the not-so-refreshed march from bars and into convenience stores, nourishing themselves after a long night of revelry. Oh, there is no place like home.
